Josh is one of AAI’s AmeriCorps members who chose to return for a second year of service! In fact, Josh’s first term was during the 2023-2024 year, and AAI is so excited to welcome him back to the San Luis Valley! We asked Josh about returning to service with Alpine Achievers Initiative. See what he had to say below!
I was eager to return for another service term, as it offers a profound sense of fulfillment, opportunities for personal growth, the opportunity to connect with such a wonderful cohort of like-minded people, and a welcoming sense of community at my service site—not to mention living in a beautiful place!
I am happy to be returning to the same service site in Creede, at the Rec center!
I always look forward to growth within myself and others; however, being back in the valley, I’m looking forward to making new connections, as well as building on top of previous ones!
Of course! I am always trying to refine my approach and perspective to best live my life! My primary themes for this year revolve around gratitude, grace, and fun! For me, that often entails being present in the moment, appreciating its uniqueness, and learning its valuable lessons. It also involves extending grace to yourself and others, recognizing that perfection is often unattainable.
Lastly, always find time to laugh and have fun! I eagerly anticipate the challenges that lie ahead, including new professional opportunities at my site, exploring additional trips, and engaging with the community in innovative ways that were previously beyond my reach. I am excited about the prospect of embracing special experiences and expanding my horizons.
Patience pays off, self care is your best friend, and stay eager to try new things! Service is very special and sometimes it can feel like a long year, week, or day, but try not to take it for granted—time flies!
