Jordyn first joined us in January this year and wanted to continue with her service for a second school year. We asked Jordyn about returning to service with Alpine Achievers Initiative. See what she had to say below!
I decided to come back for a second year because I wanted the chance to form deeper relationships with the students and community I serve in. I had a really great experience with my placement in my first program, and I felt like I wanted more time.
I am with the same service site! (Alamosa Elementary 3-5).
I am looking forward to having more responsibility this year. I have a few reading groups that I am leading, which have been a fun challenge so far. I’m also looking forward to experiencing all the Colorado seasons.
I plan to approach the year similarly to my first term. I want to focus on building relationships with students and try to build up the strengths of the students I work with. I would say if anything, I’m interested in being more curious this year. I’m aiming to be proactive about asking if there are any trainings I could do to enhance my knowledge, any meetings I can sit in on to get a better sense of what a career in education would look like, and I’m really hoping to gain mentors.
Get out into the community and nature! Some of the most unique experiences I had came from the community outreach events. Take advantage of the opportunities to get outside your comfort zone with these.
