The Denver Gazette: Budget cuts threaten Youth Mental Health Corps for Rural Students
AAI’s Executive Director, Megan Strauss, is quoted in the Gazette’s article: “In a rural community where the whole staff might be 20 people, adding that one person is massive. To lose 15 full-time members … it hurts the students more than anything.”
Alpine Achievers Initiative was one of the pilot AmeriCorps programs for the Youth Mental Health Corps (YMHC) in Colorado last year. This year, between our traditional AmeriCorps members, part-time capacity-building positions, and the members in our Educator Recruitment and Retention (ERR) program, AAI has twenty members participating in the YMHC. With enough funding, we hope to continue this valuable resource for students in rural Colorado.
